Johnny Scott Bags Runner-up Finish in Wild West Shootout Finale
On Wednesday evening for the third round of the Wild West Shootout at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Arizona), Stormy edged his way into the A-Main with a 3rd place finish in his heat while Johnny came in 5th. Recording a 2nd place finish in his B-Main behind Frank Heckenast Jr., Johnny locked into the 19th-starting position for the A-Main. With $5,000 on the line, Johnny passed seven spots to place 12th while Stormy dropped two spots to register a 13th place outing.
For the fourth round on Friday afternoon, Johnny scored a 3rd place finish in his heat while Stormy grabbed the 4th and final transfer spot. Johnny improved five spots in the 25-lap feature to place 6th while Stormy passed seven cars to reel in a 9th place finish.
The following night, Johnny followed up the second fastest lap in his time trial group with an 8-lap heat race victory. Stormy posted a 4th place finish in his heat which positioned him 14th on the starting grid for the $5,000-to-win A-Main. Breaking into the Top-10, Stormy gained seven positions to notch a 7th place finish. Starting in second, Johnny suffered a flat left-rear tire while running in 5th on lap 27 that prevented him from finishing.
On Sunday for the final night of the 14th annual Wild West Shootout, Johnny laid down the fastest lap in his time trial group before capturing an 8-lap heat race victory. Stormy was an early retiree from his heat on the opening lap sending him into the B-Main. Needing a 4th place finish or better to make the $15,000-to-win finale, Stormy fell one spot short with a 5th place finish. Receiving the third-starting position for the A-Main, Johnny Scott gained one spot in the 50-lapper to place 2nd behind Brandon Sheppard with Ricky Weiss, Brian Shirley, and Bobby Pierce rounding out the Top-5.
