Stormy scores prelim win at FALS, 10th in Prairie Dirt Classic on Saturday
Stormy Scott made his second trip of 2021 to Victory Lane on Friday night in his Rancho Milagro Racing No. 2S Mesilla Valley Transportation/ Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engines Super Late Model.
His latest victory was worth $3,000 and came in World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series preliminary action for the 31st annual Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway.
“It was a big week for our team. We were in contention for wins pretty much every night, and I got the job done on Friday night at Fairbury (Speedway). Anytime you can drive past (Kyle) Larson to get a win, you’ve got to feel like things are headed in the right direction for your team,” Stormy said. “We got to second place early in the 100 lapper on Saturday night, but the car began to fade on me during the second half of the feature and we ended up with an eighth-place finish. It was still a great week of racing for our team.”
Stormy Scott made a mid-week trip to Davenport Speedway (Davenport, Iowa) last Tuesday for the MARS Racing Series-sanctioned Hoker 50. After topping the 22-car field in time trials, Stormy streaked to a heat race victory, which positioned him on the pole for the main event. With $10,000 on the line, Scott led the first 24 circuits until a caution slowed his momentum. He went on to finish 10th in the 50-lapper.
On Friday afternoon, Johnny joined Stormy as the pair invaded Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) for the 31st annual Prairie Dirt Classic weekend. With a talented field of 74 World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries split into two separate groups for time trials, Stormy qualified fifth fastest in his group, while Johnny clocked in 24th quickest.
Rolling off third for the preliminary feature, Scott outran Kyle Larson to capture his second win of the season and a $3,000 prize. Johnny lost two spots in his 25-lap preliminary feature to finish 14th.
With Stormy’s spot already secured into the $50,000-to-win Prairie Dirt Classic on Saturday, Johnny rolled off 13th in his B-Main with another shot at qualifying for the finale. Needing to place second or better, Johnny passed 10 cars but came one spot shy of a transfer position. He earned a spot into the Non-Qualifiers race where he finished sixth.
Starting the main event in fourth, Stormy snuck past Bobby Pierce for second near the middle stages of the 100-lapper but faded late to finish eighth.
