Stormy scores Top-10 finish in Cowboy Classic; Johnny finishes fifth in Rapid Rumble
The Memorial Day weekend found both Stormy and Johnny Scott in action with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) and the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS).
After Mother Nature shifted Thursday’s event to Friday afternoon, Stormy was one of 58 LOLMDS entries on hand at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) on Friday for the Cowboy Classic. Following the fifth fastest time in his group, Scott edged his way into the $6,000-to-win A-Main with the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat race. Starting in 15th, Stormy passed six cars in the 45-lapper to finish ninth.
Later that evening for the Tribute to Don & Billie Gibson, Scott recorded a third-place finish in his heat, which positioned him 15th on the starting grid for the A-Main. With $6,000 on the line, Stormy faded four spots to register a 19th-place outing.
Also on Friday, Johnny traveled to Rapid Speedway for the 13th annual Rapid Rumble. With a third-place finish in his heat race positioning him 10th on the starting grid for the opening night feature, Scott passed five cars in the 40-lapper to place fifth. He trailed Jake O’Neil, Rodney Sanders, Lucas Schott, and Dan Ebert to the checkers.
With his preliminary results on Friday locking Stormy into the 13th-starting position for Saturday night’s $30,000-to-win Show-Me 100, Scott held steady momentum throughout the 100-lapper to come home 13th.
For the Spring Challenge on Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minn.), Johnny marched forward six spots in his heat race to finish second behind Darron Fuqua. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Scott dropped three position to finish 11th.
To wrap up the Memorial Day weekend on Sunday, Johnny stopped at Upper Iowa Speedway (Decorah, Iowa) for the Nordic Nationals. Following a fifth-place finish in his heat, Scott secured his spot into the $10,000-to-win finale with a second-place finish in his B-Main. Rolling off 16th, Johnny passed seven cars in the 40-lapper to record a ninth-place finish.
