Stormy notches fifth place finish on Friday, Johnny improves 15 spots in WWS finale
On Wednesday afternoon at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Ariz.) for the third round of the Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout, Stormy secured his spot into the A-Main with an eight-lap heat race win while Johnny finished fourth in his heat, sending him into the B-Main. Cruising to a consolation victory, Johnny locked into the 19th-starting position for the $5,000-to-win A-Main. Starting on the front row, Stormy was caught behind a tangle on the seventh lap that brought an immediate end to his evening. Johnny marched forward seven spots in the 30-lapper to register a 12th-place finish.
After a scheduled off day on Thursday evening, Stormy posted a runner-up finish in his heat race on Friday while Johnny edged his way into the show with the third and final transfer spot. With $5,000 on the line, Stormy passed six cars in the 30-lapper to register a fifth-place finish behind Tyler Erb, Ricky Thornton Jr., Jonathan Davenport, and Bobby Pierce. Johnny faded four spots to come home 17th.
For the final $5,000-to-win preliminary feature on Saturday evening, Johnny finished second in his heat behind Ricky Thornton Jr. while Stormy trailed him across the line to finish third. Johnny dropped four spots in the feature to place 13th while Stormy pulled off early from the 40-lapper on lap 16.
On Sunday evening for the $25,000-to-win finale, both drivers came short of a transfer spot in their heats, sending them into the B-Main for one last shot at the show. Johnny edged his way with the fourth and final transfer spot while Stormy made the decision to scratch from the 12-lapper. Rolling off 23rd, Johnny Scott advanced through the field 15 spots to score an impressive eight-place finish.
